Overcoming Imposter Syndrome
Hello Drivver,
In our coaching sessions and webinars, we see ambitious professionals, rising leaders, and seasoned executives, and regardless of experience, one pattern shows up time and time again: imposter syndrome. In our Ask Us Anything sessions, the number one question is - “How do I overcome my imposter syndrome?”
Imposter syndrome affects people across industries and levels of success, including our Drivvers Team. It doesn’t discriminate. We’ve coached brilliant clients with advanced degrees, major achievements, and powerful titles, yet many still quietly wonder:
“What if I’m not good enough?”
“What if they find out I don’t belong here?”
“What if I make a fool of myself?”
What some of us don’t realize is that imposter syndrome is not a reflection of your ability; it’s a reflection of your self-perception. A perception we see is holding too many high-potential professionals back from showing up as their full selves.
Imposter syndrome is the internal belief that your success is due to luck, timing, or external factors, not your own skills or effort. It creates a constant fear of being “found out” and often shows up as overworking, perfectionism, or staying silent when you have something valuable to contribute.
At its core, imposter syndrome disconnects professionals from their true value, and that’s where Drivvers will help.
Here are some proven tactics we use to break free
Acknowledge the Pattern
Imposter syndrome thrives in secrecy. The first step to overcoming it is simple but crucial: recognize when it shows up. Start noticing the thought patterns, acknowledging them helps you separate fear from fact. Practicing mindfulness is key. Pay attention to the moments when self-doubt creeps in. At first, it might feel uncomfortable or even difficult but like any skill, it gets easier with consistency.
We recommend setting a daily calendar reminder to check in with yourself. Take a few minutes at the end of each day to reflect. Did imposter thoughts show up? Were you able to shift your mindset toward something more constructive?
This small habit can lead to a powerful shift in how you see yourself, and how you show up.
Anchor Yourself in Evidence
We encourage clients to track tangible wins, positive feedback, and key contributions. Building a “career evidence” file helps rewire the brain to see proof of success, not just perceived shortcomings.
Drivvers has blocked time on their calendars for weekly Reflections. In that meeting, take a moment to document your wins for the week in a Google doc. As you add to your notes, review your notes from previous weeks to remind yourself of your accomplishments, big and small.
Shift From Perfection to Progress
We Drivvers are kind towards ourselves. We practice reframing self-talk: from “I should know this already” to “I’m learning and growing.” The most effective leaders aren’t perfect; they’re adaptable and resilient. There are no failures, only learnings!
Foster Community and Mentorship
Our coaching programs emphasize the power of connections and networking. When you share your struggles in a safe space, you realize you are not alone, and that vulnerability is a strength, not a weakness. Sharing your story with others can help others who suffer from imposter syndrome, and inspire a mind shift.
Lead Through Action
Confidence is built, not bestowed. That’s why we Drivvers take aligned, courageous action, even when we don’t feel 100% ready. Repetition and exposure lead to confidence over time!
Final thoughts, you don’t have to “wait until you feel ready” to own your seat at the table. You are not an imposter, you are a professional in motion, learning, growing, and contributing.
